Steve Jobs and the iPad 2: I See What You Did There

UI OS: WebOS we agree that much has to do with IOS, especially the user interface. It was ever thus, is not entirely the fault of HP. Even WebOS many refer to as "an interesting mix of IOS and Android." However, the similarity was carried a step further by redesigning the mail client of the way they did. Personally I would not look bad, in fact, make those who are still waiting for the miracle in Ios (the decent reporting system) to see that this is possible without losing the ease of use that characterizes the Apple OS. Naturally, it becomes a good option for those who want a harmonious and interesting mixture between the two most successful mobile OS market. (Note that WebOS is more than that, I will detail later in this post * ).

Air Print: HP promised functionality that would enable the TouchPad send files to print wirelessly to the printer models from the brand that support this function. No way, Apple implemented this feature less than a year ago.

Tablet Design: not the same, but much like the iPad. Other distinguished learned enough in the design, Xoom and Motorola, although it is one of the most similar, is distinguished from the iPad to have a horizontal design. You can not say the same about HP TouchPad. Again, I see that this is necessarily bad. IPad design I like, and if I could change anything it would be just the start button (today today, it would remove). See the HP tablet is almost like seeing the iPad 2 that it was rumored, might not have that button. Although I sorry? That is not the only aspect in which the TouchPad is about the rumors of what would be the next tablet from Apple.




Up here, the points at which HP imitate what was done by Apple until today, both in their new products WebOS as everything is concerned them. What follows is the advancement made by HP, the features and products presented that seem taken directly from the plans Apple and practiced before them.

NFC: explained what is the NFC in [ this post ] happened so long and I'll explain what is important. As I mentioned earlier in the post linked to, there are rumors that the next iPhone might have an NFC chip to communicate with other Apple hardware. Clearly, HP is ahead with its characteristic "Touch and Share", which makes use of NFC for exchanging content between the TouchPad and the Pre 3. See the video feature automatically made me think what could have been the NFC between 2 and iPhone iPad 5. Also this case is not strictly a step towards Apple as well as other companies like Google and Nokia are experimenting with NFC chips.




Veer: this is the most doubtful, which led me to put the title of the post and that, if confirmed, practically demonstrate that information from HP about Apple's plans did not come from simple "leakage." I agree that, at least to my knowledge, rumors of Apple working on a version of "mini" of the iPhone, began to circulate after HP introduced its new range of products. This indicates that if they were actually those of developing Cupertino midrange version of its flagship product to expand and compete in another segment of the mobile market, Apple minimally anyone in selling information to competitors.

Too? In September 2009 Nokia introduced the N97, a slightly smaller and cheaper than its big brother the N97. A few months later, Sony Ericsson introduced the Xperia X10 Mini, a pocket version inspired by the X10 model. Contrary to what may seem, the rumors said it was Nokia who really took the idea of \u200b\u200bSE and hastened to present earlier. Which makes sense: no one can be to develop a cell phone and have it ready in two to three months. So if in June Apple iPhone mini, we know that HP is not playing fair. One would say that nobody cares. Happen but I do not think Jobs is left with his arms crossed .




Beyond what, for now I'll take the liberty to discuss that is what HP would have to incorporate the philosophy of Apple in my opinion, and vice versa. After all, if they are to engage in Cupertino emulate, at least do it right right?

Construction materials: no comparison between the metal finish iPad, and bright plastic TouchPad. Should give more importance to building materials. Xoom Even Motorola seems to have a better quality finish that HP tablet .

Design: emulate Apple but they do badly. Base copied ideas and designs, but do not resolve well the important details. I limit myself here to refer to the products I mentioned: the Envy notebook and the HP TouchSmart. Not only have lower quality materials, but little thin design makes them less points against a team of Apple. I think it's an issue that should be taken more seriously, since much of the success of Jobs and his people is precisely because their products have attractive designs.

physical keyboard: I'm sure it's a plus for many, and is a flagship property of Palm. But I think at this point, and not a few who have experience with virtual keyboards, which have Swype customizations and applications that make the user gets used to them more easily. With this in mind, I think it should be encouraged to launch a model without a physical keyboard. Achieved to a smartphone lighter, thinner and likely to take some space to put better parts (and I say this because I noticed that the Pre 3, having a dual core 1.4Ghz processor, having 512MB of RAM just to provision) .




Speakers: placed in the back of the phone is wrong, plain and simple. One team always puts the screen up, so the sound is low on power and even a bit distorted speakers plugged into the surface against which it is supported. Ideally, like Apple (and other companies like Nokia) placed the speakers on the telephone base, as well as on the front above the screen. HP even run with the advantage that they have absolutely no connector on the bottom, so that the speaker may be larger.



Timing: custom Apple has announced a product ready for sale to the public is one of the things that not only HP, but all other companies should take an example. One of the worst cases, speaking of other corporations, was the Nokia N97 which announced in September 2009 but she released only in June-July 2010. HP in this case had the products, but only would be going on sale "during the winter." If you ask me, is a long time that between the announcement and the arrival on the market. And with so many competitors (Motorola, Samsung, BlackBerry, the very Apple ...) I think it would have been better to wait a little longer, polish the product (eg TouchStone not have a final version of the OS) and file a month before its release. After all, products that were released before the announcements of Apple about the iPhone iPad 2 and 5, are likely to remain in the background. Not only because it is expected that in the case of major announcements, but because the time between the announcement and the arrival to the market for Apple products is little.



Up here, the criticism towards HP. However, as I passed * , Apple also has things to learn from the people of Palm (yes, the Palm division within HP) several of which were implemented by Jon Rubinstein long before it was bought.

Touchstone: honestly do not know the charge rate through this device, but being able to charge the battery in a computer without having to connect cables I feel great. The obvious advantage of the Apple docks is that not only charges the battery but also connect to the computer with the computer to share content. But if, say, iTunes had a way wireless synchronization, then would not need the cables and the idea TouchStone to an Apple would make little sense.



Gesture Area: in the previous post, I talked about the rumor that the iPhone could lose his next button start after putting in place a multi-sector with which to expand the area available for gestures. After seeing the implementation that the touch pad has WebOS, I can not stop thinking about how well would something like that to the iPhone. I mean, the new gestures that could be seen in the beta 1 iOS 4.3 (video in previous post ) are interesting for the iPad, but they are a disaster for the iPhone. There is no way they can use four fingers at once to switch between applications without showing ridiculous and uncomfortable. The solution is then that gesture area in which to perform the same movements with one or two fingers are on the screen, but assigning a different function.


Task Manager: this point is coupled to the former. I think it would not hurt a better task manager, one that allows switching between applications, or close the same in a more comfortable than currently provided. Putting aside the grotesque are the gestures, the transition between applications shown in the video I mentioned earlier, it looks much better than the current OS. I think it's a good idea if you find a way to deploy the iPhone (again, here is the link to the previous point). But in case you are not successful, WebOS cards are a great idea that many would appreciate to see implemented.

Notifications: iOS What user would not want a decent reporting system? The webOS is a good example to follow, even the Android is good compared with that currently owns the iPhone. And while today there are applications such as Notified (via Cydia) allowing somehow overcome the problem, obviously the ideal would be a notification system like the people integrated into the OS.

aside speculation and hope, hope that HP can become a worthy rival to Apple, and competition that innovations emerge as interesting as we have been showing so far.
